The Fusion Team

Mike became an owner of Fusion Building Systems in 2010, acquiring a decade old business that produced high quality steel frames for the construction industry.  Fusion continued to thrive, firmly establishing it as a UK leader in light gauge steel panelised superstructures optimising offsite manufacturing. In 2022 The Hill Group purchased the business and Mike remains responsible for managing and leading the senior team, working with them to implement a growth strategy which will further develop the business.

Mike’s engineering career began in the early 1980s when he completed a five-year engineering apprenticeship in prototype automotive design and testing. Metallurgy, design and technical drawing were his areas of specialism and with a clear aptitude for business development, he joined Danka Business Systems as UK sales and marketing director for before quickly being given responsibility as Vice President for European operations, covering some 17 countries, managing 560 direct sales staff and handling budgets in excess of $560m.

At Danka, Mike was able to hone his skills in business development, sales targeting, performance management and importantly, corporate level change management. He also drove Danka’s corporate sponsorship programme, heading up contracts with Formula 1, the PGA and Lambourn Stables. Mike’s ultimate objective was to prepare the Company for disposal, which he achieved for $290m.

In the mid 2000s, Mike took on a strategic role with a leading UK general asset lender to rationalise business operations, preparing the company for disposal in 2009.

At Fusion, Mike has worked hard to grow a customer base in volume residential, care, student and hotel sectors. He’s developing a dedicated, skilled team which is focused on meeting and exceeding client and industry expectations. He continues to champion the case for offsite construction methods and speaks at many construction events, helping to educate and reshape practices for housebuilding in the UK.

As an experienced and respected member of the light steel frame industry, in February of 2016 Mike was appointed to the board of the The Housing Forum to provide a voice for offsite construction. Then in 2017, following the publication of the Government’s housing white paper: ‘Fixing our broken housing market’, he was invited to be part of a cross industry working group exploring how modern methods of construction could be employed. And more recently in 2019, Mike was asked to be a member of the newly-formed Light Steel Frame Association’s Steering Committee and was appointed the inaugural Chair in 2020– furthering the opportunity for light steel frame in the construction and housing industries.

Mike lives in Northamptonshire with his wife and three children and enjoys cricket, golf and classic car refurbishment.

With more than 25 years working in the construction industry, Simon has extensive knowledge of light gauge steel, timber frame and traditional masonry construction methods.

Simon started his career as a construction technician, working for a small company in Oxfordshire. He later began to carve out his interest in offsite, initially working in design and project management for two of the UK’s largest timber frame manufacturers. In 2015, with his commitment and expertise in offsite construction firmly established, Simon joined Fusion as a project manager.

As an energetic and self-motivated individual, Simon aims to deliver positive change through a clear vision, focused on targets, customers and commercial awareness. Having developed a strong track record of delivering P&L targets against long term business objectives for Fusion, Simon’s talent was recognised by the business and he was promoted to Commercial Manager in 2019.

Over the past four years, Simon has worked with many of Fusion’s key clients successfully delivering more than £20million of projects. Now, working with his team, he is responsible for the commercial elements of all Fusion projects, from initial concept through to final account. Simon is focussed on forging close working relationships with both clients and colleagues, to deliver targets and a profitable outcome for all. 

Simon’s key areas of expertise are in surveying functions, technical specifications, contract negotiations and bid processes. He also has an HNC in Construction and has studied Management Training at Cranfield University.

Simon is married, has two daughters and enjoys rugby, golf, going to the gym and eating out. 

David has over 35 years’ experience in general construction, 15 of those within off-site manufacture.  His extensive knowledge includes MMC and traditional construction, alongside restoration and conservation, safeguarding any client project, small or large for timely deliveries.

Responsible for a highly successful portfolio of projects, with significant practical experience in all of the key construction management roles including estimating, site supervision, contract supervision, running both design and projects, quantity surveying and general management.

David has managed numerous challenging and varied project types, including new build and refurbishment of private and commercial buildings.  He has extensive knowledge of modern methods of construction, able to deliver complex projects within budget, to program, producing a high quality product, whilst adhering to health and safety protocols; from initial enquiry through to agreeing the final account.

David possesses relevant training in both operational and commercial management roles, underpinned by strong academic qualifications, complimented by excellent communication and client facing skills.

Confident in developing a friendly and professional team ethic, encouraging and managing pro-active planning and engaging all project stakeholders early in the project planning stage.

Career highlights include achieving several prestigious industry awards for excellence and realising an audited increase in operational efficiency by 48% in one year.

With over 15 years’ experience in offsite construction in both steel framing and timber systems, Jaspreet has worked closely with many of the country’s top 20 house builders and main contractors.

He heads up pre-construction activities, which includes aiding the production of Fusion’s systems to meet architect designed plans. Jaspreet works with the client team and assists in developing the architectural drawings to design the Fusion frame before handing over to the design and engineering team.

Jaspreet believes offsite production is the future for construction, providing time savings over traditional construction methods with a higher build quality. Passionate about the environment, he is aware of the benefits that offsite construction has in providing an environmentally friendly solution for the industry.

Working with partners and stakeholders, across all departments, it is his attention to detail in the pre-construction phase that ensures accuracy on the final build. 

With a background in pre-construction management Jaspreet has a thorough understanding of the products and designs, advising and coordinating with the key consultants i.e. Architect, Engineer, M&E etc. to ensure exact requirements are achieved whilst maximising the use of offsite manufacturing.  Offering key technical input into R&D improvements for the business, focusing on the design process to identify risk and develop solutions to optimise the benefits of MMC.

A previously Qualified Passivhaus Designer, experienced in sustainable design and the renewable energy sector, a key achievement included designing the first Passivhaus in Oxford.

 Originally from the Punjab region in India, Jaspreet came to the UK in 2004 to study construction management at Oxford Brookes University, gaining a BSc Hons in Construction Management.  Married with a young daughter, in his spare time, Jaspreet plays field hockey, enjoys watching cricket and up-cycling furniture/ DIY.

With responsibility for the structural engineering of Fusion’s structures and the management of both internal and external engineering teams, Michael has a crucial role to play in ensuring the safe and efficient design of Fusion Structures. 

Michael studied at Coventry University achieving a First Class Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Structural Engineering, which included a 12 month industrial placement working in the Coventry Highways department for Jacobs Engineering. 

He went on to join Travis Perkins in 2010 working within their engineered wood products team as an EWP designer where he developed practical commercial awareness and a deep understanding of structural efficiency and was responsible for the creation of automatic pricing systems for the in-house teams.

In 2011 he furthered his academic credentials, achieving a distance learning Masters Degree in timber engineering at Edinburgh Napier University. 

Michael joined the Fusion team in July 2016 as a trainee engineer and quickly learnt the product system and details by designing a seven storey student accommodation block. Michael was promoted to structural engineer in January 2017 and worked with senior engineers on multiple projects to design structures ranging from three storey terraced housing to 10 storey accommodation blocks. 

Michael was later promoted to Engineering Manager with responsibilities for managing and growing both the internal engineering team and the external consultant pool available to Fusion. He is involved with Fusion’s fire testing programme and has been responsible for arranging, specifying and attending all fire tests carried out on the Fusion system.

Michael lives just outside Northampton and enjoys walking his dog and a spot of DIY.
